Mumbai Beat for a Punjabi Girl!
Disclaimer: The account below is that of an anxious, dream loaded northern girl. Enjoy Reading!
It started off with the urge to write a paper for an Entrance Exam. To bust the bubbles , no I din't get in. I boarded the flight from City Beautiful and the journey from the wheat basket to the Konkan Coast was spent in air.
Bombay |
Getting off from the plane I was surrounded by an aura of salted, humid air with sun shining bright on my head. Being a Cancerian, I sensed the sea nearby (being cancerian had nothing to do with it, anyone who had read their geography books could make this out!). I had to ride from the airport to Colaba and in the way I inhaled half of the city.
I curved structure of Bandra Worli sea link connected the 2 of the 7 islands Mumbai is. Enroute, my jaw dropped seeing the showrooms of the cars whose fantacy every kid in the country has. My dreams raced seeing Porsche Rolls-Royce, Mercedes all decorated in the glass cages to fuel the mediocre dreams. Mumbai indeed is a city of dreams.
CST Station |
Each building I saw had a halo of history. The rickety and fragile architecture seemed to have stories to tell. The grand CST station, Times of India Building and Bombay High-court stood tall to impress upon the looker their antiquity. My giggle desire to see a typical Bombay double decker came into being when we drove parallel to the red yellow vehicle. Then came the Marine Drive. Brimming with the love struck couples, experiencing the eternity of their love by staring at the endless sea. I reached my destination after one and a half hours of city breathing.
Next day was my exam and I am not going to make you read my exam woes, so fast tracking to the next day.
It was the last day. I had an afternoon flight to catch but I wanted to see as much as I could. The first stop was Nariman Point, walking that path I felt like Munnabhai after clearing the medical entrance. The gushing waves portrayed my excitement. Though the sun pierced my skin but I could not miss a walk on the Marine Drive. I felt the sea wind brushing my hair and felt like Konkana Sen of Wake up Sid and pretended to contemplate life for like 5 minutes. I guess the film fever took me. I was done, pictures had been clicked and my hair looked perfect.
Next stop Gateway of India. The security seemed uptight and after a quick security checked I was told the entry is closed. I looked at the Gateway and I looked Majestic. To overcome the despair of not entering the Gateway I turned around and found myself standing opposite to terror witnessed Taj. I kingly architecture certified to it being named after the World Wonder. The weird fact about about the secondary building is that the front and back got flipped during the construction. Shocking to know such a thing about a famous building.
building between Gateway and doomed Taj is the weird one |
So basically I tracked all the spots where the terrorists went. And now was the time to go. I again spent my journey from the sea to shivaliks in the air.
